Zucchini Striato d’Italia World Kitchen Seeds
Approx 25 Seeds
Striato d’Italia is a traditional Italian heirloom zucchini, prized for its distinctive ribbed green fruits, firm texture, and slightly nutty flavour. Considered by many as one of the best-tasting zucchinis, this variety is highly versatile in the kitchen – delicious when grilled, sautéed, roasted, or added to pasta and antipasto dishes. Its attractive striped fruits also make it a standout in the garden.
How to Grow
Sow seeds directly into well-prepared soil in a warm, sunny position. Plant 2–3 seeds per clump, 12 mm deep, spaced 40 cm apart. Lightly firm soil and keep moist. Thin to the strongest seedling once true leaves appear. Mulch around plants with compost or straw to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Regular watering and harvesting encourage continuous cropping.
When to Plant
Spring to summer.
Soil Type
Well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Prefers a sunny position.
Harvest
Fruits are ready from 8 weeks. Pick regularly at 12–15 cm long for best flavour and texture.
Sow
Spring, Summer
Important Note
These seeds may be treated with a fungicide (Thiram or Apron XL). Do not eat the seeds or feed them to animals. If treated, the packet will be clearly marked and the seeds dyed a distinct colour.
