Product Overview
Helleborus Winter Elegance Plum Purple is a hardy winter-flowering perennial valued for its rich plum-purple flowers and attractive evergreen foliage. Its deep colouring brings warmth and contrast to shaded garden beds, woodland-style plantings, borders and containers during the cooler months.
Growth:
Helleborus Winter Elegance Plum Purple forms a neat, upright clump approximately 45cm high and 45cm wide. Its glossy divided foliage creates an attractive mound and provides year-round structure in the garden.
Light Requirements:
Plant in part shade to full sun. In warmer climates, a position with protection from harsh afternoon sun is ideal. It performs particularly well beneath deciduous trees and shrubs where it receives winter light and summer shade.
Soil Requirements:
Plum Purple prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid planting in areas that remain waterlogged for extended periods.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment and maintain even soil moisture through the growing and flowering period. Mulching will help retain moisture and protect the root zone during warmer weather.
Frost Tolerance:
Helleborus Winter Elegance Plum Purple has excellent frost tolerance and is well suited to cool and temperate gardens.
Drought Tolerance:
Once established, Plum Purple can tolerate short periods of dryness, although regular watering during prolonged hot and dry conditions will help maintain healthy foliage and plant vigour.
Flowering Information:
Rich plum to purple single flowers are produced from June through September. Contrasting yellow stamens stand out against the dark petals, creating a striking winter display.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow approximately 45cm between plants to provide room for mature clumps to develop and maintain good airflow.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in autumn and again in spring to support healthy foliage and flowering. Compost or well-aged organic matter can also be applied around the root zone.
Care and Maintenance:
Remove older or damaged foliage before flowering begins to improve the display and increase airflow around the crown. Mulch to retain moisture, keeping mulch clear of the crown, and remove spent flowers after flowering if desired.
