Product Overview

Helleborus Winter Elegance Peach Melba is a warm and inviting winter-flowering perennial that showcases soft peach to apricot-toned blooms often tinged with rose or flushed with warm pink. Flowering during the coldest months, it adds subtle colour and elegance to shaded garden spaces when little else is in bloom. Its evergreen foliage and clumping habit make it ideal for underplanting, woodland gardens, and containers.

Growth:

Forms a compact, clump-forming perennial growing 35–45 cm tall and wide. The evergreen foliage is leathery and deep green, with blooms emerging just above the leaves in winter.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in part shade to full shade. Ideal beneath deciduous trees, in sheltered courtyard gardens, or along shaded borders where winter colour is needed.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid heavy or poorly drained soils, particularly during cooler months.

Water Requirements:

Moderate water needs. Keep soil evenly moist during active growth and flowering, but avoid overwatering. Once established, it can tolerate short dry periods.

Frost Tolerance:

Very frost-tolerant. A reliable performer in cool and temperate climates, blooming even through light frosts and cold weather.

Drought Tolerance:

Moderate drought tolerance once mature. Best flowering is achieved with consistent moisture, but plants will survive dry spells, especially in shaded, mulched areas.

Flowering Information:

Produces soft, peachy-apricot blooms with gentle rose undertones from mid-winter through early spring. Flowers may vary slightly in tone and often have a delicate, romantic appearance. Blooms are long-lasting and held just above the foliage.

Spacing Requirements:

Plant 40–50 cm apart to allow room for mature spread and airflow. Ideal for mass planting or for combining with other early-flowering perennials in shaded areas.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring or autumn. An annual application of compost or well-rotted manure will support soil health and flower production.

Care and Maintenance:

Remove older leaves in late autumn to tidy the plant and allow blooms to be fully visible. Deadhead spent flowers to maintain appearance. Avoid disturbing the root zone, as hellebores perform best when left undisturbed once established.
