Product Overview
Cucumber Kiwano African Horned World Kitchen Seeds
Approx 60 Seeds
Kiwano, also called Horned Melon, is an eye-catching African heirloom vine that produces spiky orange-yellow fruit with bright green, jelly-like flesh. The flavour is a refreshing mix of banana, lime and cucumber, making it a unique addition to salads, salsas, juices or as a decorative garnish. This exotic fruit brings both taste and colour to the home garden.
How To Grow
Sow seeds directly into the garden in a sunny position. Plant 2 to 3 seeds together, 10mm deep and 50cm apart, then thin to the strongest seedling once established. Keep soil evenly moist until seedlings appear, usually within 14 to 21 days. Provide a trellis or fence for the vigorous vines to climb and support the fruit.
When To Plant
Sow during spring and summer. In tropical or frost-free regions it can be grown all year round.
Harvest
Fruits are ready to pick in 12 to 14 weeks, when the skin turns bright orange-yellow.
Soil Type
Best grown in rich, well-drained soil that has been improved with compost or organic matter.
