Chinese Chives Garlic Chives World Kitchen Seeds
Approx 250 Seeds
Chinese chives, also known as garlic chives, are a versatile perennial herb with flat green leaves and a mild garlic flavour. Popular in Asian cuisine, they are used in dumplings, stir-fries, soups and as a garnish. Attractive white flowers also appear in summer, making them a useful and ornamental addition to both herb gardens and borders.
How To Grow
Sow seeds thinly in trays or directly where they are to grow. Cover lightly with soil, firm down and keep moist until seedlings emerge. Once established, thin or transplant plants to around 20cm apart. Chives grow best in a sunny to lightly shaded position and benefit from regular watering. Plants can be harvested repeatedly once mature.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer, or year-round in frost-free regions.
Harvest
Cut leaves as required once plants are well established. Flowers are also edible and can be harvested in summer.
Soil Type
Prefers rich, fertile soil that retains moisture but drains freely. Add compost or organic matter for best results.
