Product Overview
Cape Gooseberry World Kitchen Seeds
Approx 100 Seeds
Bring a taste of the tropics to your garden with Cape Gooseberry, a much-loved fruiting plant originally from South America. Each golden berry is wrapped in a papery husk, protecting its juicy, tangy-sweet flesh. With a flavour often described as ‘fruit salad in a bite’, they’re perfect for snacking straight from the plant, decorating cakes and desserts, or turning into homemade jams and smoothies.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 5mm deep in pots or trays of seed raising mix, placing them in a warm, sheltered spot with plenty of light. Keep soil moist until seedlings appear (7–21 days). Once plants are strong enough, transplant into the garden or larger pots, spacing them about 50cm apart. Regular watering and feeding will keep plants productive.
When To Plant
Best sown from early spring to mid-summer, when the soil has warmed.
Harvest
Fruits are ready around 12–14 weeks from sowing. Pick when the husks dry and turn a light brown, revealing the golden berries inside.
Soil Type
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter.
