Product Overview
Bean Climbing Kentucky Wonder Wax Seeds
25 grams of seed
Kentucky Wonder Wax is a classic heirloom climbing bean known for its straight, flattened golden-yellow pods that grow 15 to 20cm long. Nearly stringless and full of flavour, these beans can be enjoyed young as snap beans or left to mature for shelling. With vigorous growth and reliable yields, it remains a favourite in the home garden.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 2.5cm deep in damp soil, spacing 10cm apart with 80 to 90cm between rows. Avoid watering for a day or two after sowing to prevent rotting. Plant once the risk of frost has passed in a sunny, sheltered position. Seedlings usually appear within 7 to 10 days.
Provide support with canes, netting or a bean frame for climbing growth. Mulch around the base to keep roots cool and water well in dry periods. Pinch out growing tips when shoots reach 20 to 30cm to manage size and encourage bushier growth.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer. In warmer northern areas, it can be planted all year round.
Harvest
Pick beans from 10 to 12 weeks. Harvest regularly to maintain tenderness and extend the cropping period.
Soil Type
Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
Important Note
Frequent harvesting ensures longer yields and the best eating quality.
