Product Overview
Bean Climbing Epicure Seeds
25 grams of seed
Epicure, also known as Kentucky Wonder Brown, is a much-loved climbing bean variety that delivers heavy crops of tender, stringless pods when picked young. Renowned for its premium flavour and reliability, it performs well even in cooler climates and produces over an extended season. Perfect for home gardeners who want both taste and yield.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 2.5cm deep in damp soil, spacing 10 to 15cm apart in rows 50 to 60cm wide. Avoid watering for the first day or two after sowing to prevent rotting. Plant once the danger of frost has passed and choose a sheltered, sunny spot. Mulch around plants to keep roots cool and water consistently during dry periods.
When grown as pole beans, provide support with canes, netting or a bean frame. They can also be managed as ground beans, but pinch out tips when shoots reach 20 to 30cm to contain their size. Seedlings usually emerge in 7 to 10 days.
Fertiliser is not needed as beans naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer. In warmer regions, autumn sowing is also successful.
Harvest
Pick pods from 10 to 12 weeks after sowing. For best flavour and tenderness, harvest while beans are still young and before pods become lumpy. Regular picking encourages a continuous crop.
Soil Type
Well-cultivated, free-draining soil enriched with compost is ideal.
Important Note
Temperature swings or high humidity can cause flowers to drop or pods to fail to set. Harvest beans young for a stringless result.
