Product Overview
Bean Butter Bean Cherokee Seeds
25 grams of seed
Butter Bean Cherokee is a compact dwarf variety that produces strong, upright plants with generous yields of oval, lemon-yellow pods. Tender, fleshy and full of flavour, these beans are best harvested young for stringless eating. Quick to crop and ready in around 55 days during summer, they are an easy and rewarding choice for both beginner and experienced gardeners.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 2.5cm deep in damp soil, spacing 7 to 10cm apart in rows 50cm apart. Avoid watering for the first day or two after sowing to reduce the chance of rotting. Choose a sunny, sheltered position and protect young plants from wind. Keep beds weed-free and water well in dry weather. Lightly misting the flowers with water can help improve pod set. For the best flavour and texture, pick pods while they are still young and tender.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer. In warmer areas, autumn planting is also suitable.
Harvest
Pods are ready to pick in 8 to 10 weeks. Regular harvesting encourages continuous production.
Soil Type
Performs well in most well-cultivated soils. Additional fertiliser is not usually required as legumes naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen.
