Product Overview
Bean Broad Bean Early Long Pod Seeds
50 grams of seed
Early Longpod is a vigorous, high-yielding broad bean that produces impressively long pods filled with green, well-flavoured beans. Reaching around 1.2m tall, it’s a strong grower and a reliable choice for autumn and winter sowing. Like all legumes, broad beans enrich the soil as they grow, making them a valuable addition to any vegetable garden.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 5cm deep in double rows 30cm apart, leaving 25cm between seeds. If planting multiple rows, space each set of double rows 60cm apart. Pinch out the growing tips once pods are 7–10cm long to encourage well-filled pods and help deter blackfly. Broad beans prefer rich, well-dug soil; apply fertiliser before sowing for best results. Seedlings emerge in 10–14 days. As plants mature, support with stakes or a trellis to manage the weight of the crop. Harvest regularly to promote continuous production.
When To Plant
Sow in autumn and early winter. In warmer climates, plant in winter for a strong spring harvest.
Harvest
Ready to pick in 12–14 weeks. Regular picking ensures the best flavour and prolonged cropping.
Flowering
Flowers appear around 8–10 weeks after sowing.
Soil Type
Thrives in well-dug, fertile soil, though will grow in most soil types.
Important Note
Flower drop can occur in early spring due to cold temperatures. Pod set improves with warmer weather and increased bee activity.
