Product Overview

Australian Native NSW Waratah Seeds

10 Seeds

NSW Waratah (Telopea speciosissima) is one of Australia’s most spectacular native shrubs, producing large clusters of bold, blood-red flowers from mid-spring to early summer. Growing up to 3m tall, this striking plant makes a dramatic statement in gardens and is also prized as a long-lasting cut flower. Hardy and low-maintenance, Waratahs thrive in both coastal and inland areas and will bloom brightly year after year with minimal care.

We recommend using Mr Fothergill’s Wildflower Seed Starter Granules to improve germination, as they replicate the bushfire smoke chemicals that stimulate native seed growth.

Plant Height: 3m

How To Grow

Sow seeds in warm areas at any time, or in colder climates once the danger of frost has passed. Press the seeds into the soil surface, either directly where they are to grow or into seed trays filled with a moist, quality seed-raising mix. Cover very lightly, water, and keep the soil evenly moist. Apply Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for best results. Place trays or pots in a warm, shaded position until germination. Transplant seedlings into their final position when about 7cm (3in) tall, taking care not to disturb roots. Grow in full sun or part shade in most well-drained soils. Water regularly until established but avoid high-phosphorus fertilisers.

When To Plant

All year round in warm areas, after frost risk in cooler climates.
