Australian Native Bush Rose Seeds
25 Seeds
The Bush Rose (Eucalyptus macrocarpa) produces spectacular clusters of bright red flowers on gracefully drooping branches. This long-lived, hardy eucalypt is ideal as a feature tree for gardens or streetscapes. It thrives in a wide range of conditions, tolerating heat, cold, extended dry periods, and even poor soils. A superb specimen of this tree can be found flowering at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens from late summer through to mid-winter.
We recommend the use of Mr Fothergill’s Wildflower Seed Starter Granules to improve germination rates. These granules provide natural smoke chemicals, which play a key role in stimulating native seed germination.
Plant Height: Variable, depending on site conditions
How To Grow
Sow in warm areas at any time, or after the danger of frost has passed in cooler regions. Fill pots or trays with moist sandy soil, wet thoroughly, and compress. Sow seeds on the surface and cover lightly with soil. Apply Wildflower Seed Starter granules to the soil surface, water gently, and place pots in a warm, shaded location. Keep soil consistently moist until germination. Transplant seedlings into individual containers when large enough to handle, and grow on until about 20cm (8in) high before planting into permanent positions. Water well at planting and during dry summer periods. Bush Rose responds well to light applications of low-phosphate, slow-release organic fertiliser.
