Australian Native Iris Purple-Flag Seeds
30 Seeds
The Native Iris Purple-Flag (Patersonia occidentalis) is a hardy Australian perennial, valued for its elegant purple blooms in spring. Naturally adapted to tough conditions, this species is exceptionally frost hardy and drought tolerant once established, making it an ideal low-maintenance choice for home gardens.
We recommend the use of Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for improved germination rates and speed. These granules provide chemicals normally found in bushfire smoke that stimulate native seed germination and help produce stronger seedlings.
Plant Height: 40–60cm
How To Grow
Soak seeds in warm water overnight before sowing. Drain, then scatter seeds on the surface of a light, well-drained potting mix and cover very lightly with soil — do not bury too deeply. Place pots in a partly shaded area and keep moist. Maintain temperatures of 15–23°C for best results. In cooler climates, covering pots or trays with clear polythene can help retain moisture and warmth. Germination usually takes 21–42 days under the right conditions. Apply a light amount of low-phosphate organic fertiliser and water regularly during dry periods. Grow in a sunny, well-drained position.
