Product Overview
Artichoke Violet de Provence World Kitchen Seeds
Approx 50 Seeds
A classic French heirloom, Violet de Provence produces striking purple-tinged artichokes with excellent flavour. A true Mediterranean favourite, the buds can be steamed, grilled or stuffed, while the attractive silvery foliage also makes it a standout feature in the garden. Hardy and long-lived, this variety is both ornamental and productive.
How To Grow
Sow seeds in pots or trays of seed-raising mix, 1cm deep. Keep moist and warm until seedlings establish, then transplant into their final position once large enough to handle. Space plants about 90cm apart. Artichokes thrive in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Remove flower heads to encourage bud production, or leave some to enjoy their striking blooms.
When To Plant
Sow in spring or autumn, in frost-free areas.
Harvest
Pick the buds when they are firm and about the size of an egg. Harvest regularly to encourage more production.
Soil Type
Prefers rich, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter.
