Thyme Herb Seeds
1000 Seeds
Thyme is a hardy and versatile perennial herb, much loved in Mediterranean cooking. Its strong, earthy flavour enhances soups, roasts, vegetables, poultry, and red meats, and it is also a key ingredient in bouquet garni. Compact and decorative, thyme is equally at home in pots, borders, or the flower garden, where its small leaves and tiny blooms add texture and charm.
How To Grow
Sow seeds very thinly, about 0.5cm deep, in trays of seed-raising mix or directly into the garden. In cooler regions, start indoors and transplant once seedlings are sturdy. Thin or transplant to allow space for bushy growth. Thyme thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. For drying, harvest leaves just before the flowers open for the best flavour.
When To Plant
Sow all year round in most climates, or indoors in cooler areas.
Harvest
Pick leaves and sprigs as required throughout the year. Regular harvesting encourages fresh new growth.
Soil Type
Prefers light, sandy or well-drained soil in a sunny position.
