Product Overview
Philodendron Prince Of Orange is a striking indoor foliage plant prized for its vibrant colour-changing leaves. New growth emerges in brilliant orange and copper tones before gradually maturing through bronze and lime shades to deep green, creating a colourful layered display on a single plant.
Growth:
Philodendron Prince Of Orange is a compact, self-heading Philodendron that generally grows around 50 to 90cm high and wide. Unlike climbing Philodendrons, it develops a dense, upright rosette and does not require a climbing pole or trellis.
Light Requirements:
Position in bright, indirect light for the strongest orange colouring and healthy growth. It will tolerate lower light levels, although new foliage may be less vibrant. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Soil Requirements:
Grow in a high-quality, free-draining indoor potting mix. An open mix that allows good airflow around the roots is ideal. Good drainage is essential to reduce the risk of root rot.
Water Requirements:
Water when the top 2 to 3cm of potting mix feels dry. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid allowing the plant to remain constantly wet, particularly during winter when growth slows.
Humidity and Temperature:
Prince Of Orange appreciates moderate humidity and warm indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents. Average household humidity is generally suitable, although additional humidity can encourage lush growth.
Foliage and Flowering:
The main feature of Prince Of Orange is its changing foliage colour. New leaves unfurl bright orange to copper before gradually transitioning through bronze and lighter green shades to mature deep green. Flowering is uncommon indoors and the plant is grown primarily for its colourful foliage.
Pot Size and Spacing:
Prince Of Orange performs well when slightly snug in its container. Repot into the next pot size when the roots begin filling the existing pot or emerging through the drainage holes. Its self-heading habit makes it suitable for tabletops when young and floor displays as it matures.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Apply a balanced liquid or controlled-release indoor plant fertiliser during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing. Reduce feeding during the cooler months.
Care and Maintenance:
Remove yellow or damaged leaves as required and wipe the foliage occasionally to remove dust. Rotate the pot regularly to encourage balanced growth. Avoid overwatering and ensure decorative pots or saucers do not hold excess water around the roots.
