Product Overview
Philodendron Pluto is a compact, self-heading tropical foliage plant admired for its large, glossy, deep green leaves and upright growth habit. It brings a bold, lush look to indoor spaces without the sprawling habit of climbing philodendrons. Ideal for modern interiors, offices and feature pots, it thrives in warm, bright indoor conditions.
Growth:
Philodendron Pluto forms a dense, upright clump rather than trailing or vining. As it matures, the leaves become broader and more deeply shaped, creating a strong architectural presence. Under ideal conditions it can reach approximately 90 to 120 cm tall and wide, making it suitable for floor pots as well as large containers indoors.
Light Requirements:
This plant performs best in bright, indirect light. It will tolerate lower light levels but growth may slow and leaf size may reduce. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the foliage.
Soil Requirements:
A well-draining, premium indoor potting mix is essential. A mix that contains organic matter with added perlite or bark will improve drainage and air flow around the roots, helping to prevent waterlogging and root problems.
Water Requirements:
Water when the top few centimetres of soil become dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but never saturated. Reduce watering during cooler months when growth naturally slows.
Humidity and Temperature:
Philodendron Pluto prefers warm indoor temperatures between 18 and 28°C and benefits from moderate humidity. It is not frost tolerant and should be protected from cold draughts and sudden temperature drops.
Foliage and Flowering:
The large, glossy leaves are deep green with a leathery texture, forming a compact and bold foliage display. This variety is grown primarily for its foliage and does not produce showy indoor flowers.
Pot Size and Spacing:
Choose a pot that allows room for root development while maintaining stability as the plant matures. As it grows larger, shifting to a heavier floor pot will help support the upright form. Allow adequate space around the plant to ensure good air circulation.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Feed during the active growing period in spring and summer with a balanced liquid indoor plant fertiliser every 4 to 6 weeks. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
Care and Maintenance:
Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and maintain their natural shine. Rotate the pot regularly to encourage even growth. Repot every 1 to 2 years or when roots become crowded. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy and healthy.
