Pea Early Crop Massey is a very popular early dwarf variety, also known as Melbourne Market. Ready to pick in just 12–14 weeks from sowing, it produces masses of well-filled pods with a deliciously sweet flavour. A reliable choice for home gardens, this hardy annual grows to around 60cm tall.
How To Grow
Prepare flat trenches 15cm wide and 5cm deep in well-prepared soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Sow seeds in a zig-zag fashion along the middle of the trench, spacing 5cm apart. Cover with soil and firm down gently. Space rows 45cm apart and up to 2m long. Protect seedlings from birds during early stages of growth. Seedlings emerge in 7–10 days. Water regularly once germinated. No additional fertiliser is required as peas produce their own nitrogen.
