Product Overview
Ficus benjamina Midnight Beauty PBR is a compact evergreen variety celebrated for its dense, glossy, dark foliage and compact growth habit. This refined cultivar suits both garden and indoor settings, offering versatility and elegance in smaller spaces.
Growth:
A compact, bushy tree reaching about 1.2 metres tall and similarly wide, with graceful, weeping branches that are ideal for container growing or as a small garden specimen.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun to part shade. Full sun enhances the richness of its dark foliage, while filtered light suits indoor conditions.
Soil Requirements:
Best in well-drained soil, whether sandy, loamy, or free-draining potting mix. It tolerates average garden soils that aren’t waterlogged.
Water Requirements:
Water sparingly once established. It prefers the soil to dry out slightly between watering—overwatering may cause stress or leaf drop.
Frost Tolerance:
Frost-sensitive. Best suited to frost-free or mild temperate areas. In colder regions, it is best grown in containers that can be protected.
Drought Tolerance:
Moderately drought tolerant once mature. Performs well with seasonal dry spells and infrequent watering.
Flowering Information:
Primarily grown for its ornamental foliage. Flowers are rare and not a feature of this cultivar.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow around 1 to 1.2 metres between plants in garden beds or containers to accommodate its mature spread and maintain airflow.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Use a general-purpose, slow-release fertiliser in spring if growth appears slow. Excessive feeding is usually unnecessary.
Care and Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Prune lightly during the growing season to maintain shape and density. Prefers stable conditions—avoid frequent relocation to reduce leaf drop.
