Product Overview

Chilli Jalapeno (Capsicum annuum) is one of the world’s most popular chilli varieties, prized for its bold flavour, moderate heat and reliable productivity. Compact plants produce generous crops of smooth, thick-walled fruit around 5-10 cm long, maturing from glossy green to rich red as the season progresses. With its balanced spice level and crisp texture, Jalapeno is perfect for fresh eating, pickling and cooking. Easy to grow and highly rewarding, this versatile chilli thrives in raised beds, vegetable gardens and large containers.

How To Grow:

Plant in rich, well drained soil and water consistently to encourage healthy growth and continual fruit production. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Feed regularly during flowering and fruiting.

When To Plant:

Spring through summer once frost risk has passed and soil temperatures have warmed.

Harvest:

Ready in 12-14 weeks. Harvest fruit green for a fresh, crisp flavour or allow to mature red for extra sweetness and heat.

Position:

Full sun in a warm, sheltered position protected from frost and strong winds.

Soil Type:

Free draining, fertile soil enriched with compost or well aged organic matter.

Growing Tips:

Keep soil evenly moist during hot weather and fruiting periods. Frequent harvesting encourages continual flowering and larger crops. Container-grown plants benefit from occasional liquid feeding.

Notes:

Excellent fresh in salsas, nachos and salads, or pickled, grilled and added to homemade hot sauces. Its moderate heat and crisp texture make it a versatile kitchen favourite. Sold as a single seedling from the Howlong Advanced Vegetable Collection.
