Product Overview
Chilli Cayenne Red Hot (Capsicum annuum) is a vigorous and highly productive chilli variety prized for its long, slender fruit and intense fiery flavour. The tapered chillies mature from green to deep glossy red, developing strong heat and rich flavour perfect for fresh cooking or drying. Compact yet productive plants thrive in warm sunny conditions and continue producing generous harvests throughout the growing season. Suitable for vegetable gardens, raised beds and containers, Cayenne Red Hot is a reliable favourite for gardeners who enjoy growing their own spice-packed ingredients.
How To Grow:
Plant in rich, well drained soil and water regularly while avoiding waterlogged conditions. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Feed regularly during flowering and fruiting to support strong production.
When To Plant:
Spring through summer once frost risk has passed and soil temperatures have warmed.
Harvest:
Ready in 11-14 weeks. Harvest fruit green for a sharper flavour or leave to fully ripen red for maximum heat and sweetness.
Position:
Full sun in a warm, sheltered position protected from cold winds and frost.
Soil Type:
Free draining, fertile soil enriched with compost or well aged organic matter.
Growing Tips:
Avoid overwatering as excessively wet soil can reduce fruit quality. Frequent harvesting encourages continual flowering and ongoing crops. Container-grown plants benefit from regular liquid feeding.
Notes:
Excellent fresh in sauces, soups, curries and stir-fries, or dried and ground into chilli flakes and powder. Its bold heat and rich flavour make it perfect for homemade hot sauces and spicy cooking. Sold as a single seedling from the Howlong Advanced Vegetable Collection.
