Product Overview
Camellia Sasanqua Mine No Yuki is an elegant evergreen shrub that produces abundant white, irregular double blooms from autumn to early winter. This variety, also known as "Snow on the Ridge," is prized for its compact growth habit and vibrant display of flowers against dark green foliage. It is ideal for use as a hedge, screen, or in large containers and espaliers.
Growth:
Typically reaches up to 3 metres in height and about 2 metres in width, making it suitable for creating dense screens or structured hedging.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in part shade to full sun. It can tolerate more sunlight than many other camellias, making it a versatile choice for various garden settings. However, it’s best to provide some protection from the harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid planting in heavy clay or alkaline soils. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and maintain a cool root environment.
Water Requirements:
Requires regular watering, especially during dry periods. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulching can help to reduce water loss and protect roots from temperature fluctuations.
Frost Tolerance:
Moderately frost-tolerant once established. Young plants may require some protection in areas prone to severe frosts.
Drought Tolerance:
Low drought tolerance. Regular watering is essential during dry spells to prevent stress and ensure healthy growth.
Flowering Information:
Produces medium-sized, irregular double white flowers from autumn through early winter. The blooms have a peony-like form and create a striking display against the lush foliage.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant 1.5-2 metres apart for hedging or as a standalone feature to allow for proper air circulation and healthy growth.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser for acid-loving plants in spring and summer. Avoid fertilising in late autumn or winter to prevent stimulating new growth that could be damaged by cold.
Care and Maintenance:
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and promote bushier growth. Regular mulching and proper watering will enhance the plant’s health and flowering potential.
