Product Overview
Camellia Sasanqua Early Pearly is a versatile, evergreen shrub that produces beautiful, snow-white blooms with subtle hints of pink from autumn through winter. Its compact, upright growth habit makes it an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or as a feature plant in containers.
Growth:
Typically reaches up to 2-3 metres in height and about 1.5-2 metres in width, making it suitable for various landscape uses, including hedging and espaliers.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. It can handle more sun exposure than many other camellia varieties but benefits from some afternoon shade in hotter climates to protect the foliage and blooms.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Regular mulching helps retain soil moisture and maintain a cool root environment.
Water Requirements:
Moderate water needs. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Water at the base to prevent wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal issues.
Frost Tolerance:
Moderately frost-tolerant once established. Protect young plants from severe frosts to prevent damage.
Drought Tolerance:
Low drought tolerance. Regular watering is essential during dry spells to ensure healthy growth and flowering.
Flowering Information:
Produces elegant white, semi-double flowers with a pink tint from autumn through winter, adding a burst of colour during the cooler months.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant 1-1.5 metres apart for hedging or as a standalone feature. This spacing allows for proper air circulation and promotes healthy growth.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Feed with a slow-release, acid-loving plant fertiliser in late winter or early spring. Avoid over-fertilising, which can cause excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers.
Care and Maintenance:
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and remove dead or damaged branches. Regular mulching and fertilisation help support robust growth and abundant flowering.
