Product Overview
Beschorneria yuccoides Flamingo Glow PBR Variegated Mexican Lily is a striking architectural plant prized for its bold, variegated foliage and towering flower spikes. Native to Mexico and well-suited to Australian dry gardens, it features sword-like leaves striped in creamy yellow and green, forming a dramatic rosette. In spring to early summer, it produces tall coral-pink flower stalks that rise above the foliage and attract pollinators. Flamingo Glow brings strong texture, colour, and a tropical feel to waterwise and modern landscapes.
Growth:
Forms a rosette of strappy leaves reaching 60–80 cm high and wide. When in flower, the spike can rise up to 1.5–2 metres tall, creating a bold vertical accent in the garden.
Light Requirements:
Performs best in full sun to light shade. Strong sunlight enhances both the variegation of the foliage and the intensity of the flower colour.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers free-draining soil with moderate to low fertility. Ideal for sandy, rocky, or gravelly soils, and thrives in raised beds or sloped sites where water runs off easily.
Water Requirements:
Low water needs once established. Water occasionally during extended dry periods, especially in extreme heat, but avoid overwatering.
Frost Tolerance:
Tolerates light frost. In cooler climates, plant in a sheltered location or against a warm wall for added protection.
Drought Tolerance:
Excellent drought tolerance. An ideal choice for xeriscapes, coastal gardens, and low-maintenance landscaping.
Flowering Information:
Tall, dramatic flower spikes emerge in spring to early summer, bearing tubular coral-pink flowers that contrast beautifully with the variegated foliage. Flowers are attractive to bees and birds.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant 70–90 cm apart to allow the rosettes room to expand. Works well as a specimen plant or in repeating clusters for visual rhythm.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Requires minimal feeding. Apply a light dose of slow-release fertiliser in spring if desired. Avoid rich soils or excessive fertiliser, which can lead to weak growth.
Care and Maintenance:
Extremely low maintenance. Remove spent flower stalks after blooming. Old or damaged leaves can be trimmed as needed. May form offsets (pups) at the base over time, which can be left to clump or divided and replanted.
