Product Overview

Wisteria frutescens Amethyst Falls PBR is a non-invasive, deciduous climber known for its compact size and beautiful, deep lilac flowers. Unlike traditional Asian wisterias, this American variety is more restrained and well-suited for small or narrow spaces. It blooms in spring and often reblooms through summer, providing a delightful display against its lush green foliage. In autumn, the leaves turn a vibrant golden yellow before dropping.

Growth:

This wisteria variety reaches up to 3 metres in height and 2 metres in width, making it perfect for smaller spaces or containers. It can be trained to climb posts, trellises, or even allowed to trail over retaining walls and embankments.

Light Requirements:

Prefers full sun to part shade. Planting in a sunny spot encourages the most prolific flowering.

Soil Requirements:

Thrives in moist, well-drained soil. Adding organic matter will enhance soil quality and support healthy growth.

Water Requirements:

Regular watering is necessary, especially during the establishment phase. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent moisture during the growing season.

Frost Tolerance:

Highly frost-tolerant once established, making it suitable for a range of Australian climates.

Drought Tolerance:

Moderately drought-tolerant once established, but consistent watering is needed for best performance.

Flowering Information:

Produces clusters of lilac-purple flowers on shorter racemes, creating a fuller, more compact display. Blooms appear in spring with repeat flowering throughout summer.

Spacing Requirements:

Space plants approximately 2 metres apart to allow for healthy growth and good air circulation.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Feed with a slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support growth and flowering. Additional feeding after the first bloom cycle can encourage further flowering.

Care and Maintenance:

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth. Regular pruning will also prevent it from becoming invasive. It is ideal for training over structures such as pergolas or as a standalone feature.
