Product Overview

Syzygium Australe Cinnamon Twist is a compact evergreen lilly pilly admired for its warm cinnamon-coloured new growth, which contrasts beautifully with glossy green mature foliage. Its dense, bushy habit makes it an excellent choice for hedging, screening and garden features, providing year-round greenery and privacy. Fluffy cream-white flowers appear during summer, adding seasonal interest and attracting bees to the garden.

Growth:

Cinnamon Twist typically reaches approximately 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 metres wide. Its naturally dense growth responds well to pruning, allowing it to be maintained as a smaller, neatly shaped hedge.

Light Requirements:

Plant in full sun to part shade. A sunny position encourages dense foliage, while shelter from hot, drying winds is beneficial in exposed gardens.

Soil Requirements:

Adaptable to a range of soil types, this variety performs best in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid positions where water collects around the roots.

Water Requirements:

Water deeply and regularly during establishment. Once established, provide additional water during hot weather and extended dry periods to maintain healthy foliage and steady growth.

Frost Tolerance:

Cinnamon Twist tolerates light frost once established. Protect young plants and tender new growth from heavy frosts, particularly in exposed inland gardens.

Drought Tolerance:

This variety tolerates periods of dryness once established but performs best with occasional deep watering during prolonged dry conditions.

Flowering Information:

Fluffy cream-white flowers appear during summer, providing a soft contrast against the glossy foliage and attracting bees. Regular hedge trimming may reduce the flowering display.

Spacing Requirements:

For a dense hedge, space plants approximately 75 centimetres to 1 metre apart. Allow around 1.5 metres between plants when growing them as individual shrubs.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for native trees and shrubs in spring, following the recommended application rate. Water thoroughly after feeding.

Care and Maintenance:

Trim lightly and regularly to encourage bushy growth and maintain the desired shape. Remove damaged or poorly positioned branches as needed. Apply mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, keeping it clear of the stems.
