Product Overview

Salvia Leucantha Velour White is an elegant evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial shrub valued for its soft white flower spikes, silvery-green foliage and graceful arching habit. Its long flowering season and light, airy appearance make it an excellent choice for cottage gardens, perennial borders, mass planting, wildlife gardens and large containers.

Growth:

Salvia Leucantha Velour White forms a rounded, bushy shrub generally growing around 1 to 1.2 metres high and approximately 1 metre wide. It develops long, arching flowering stems above a dense mound of foliage.

Light Requirements:

Plant in full sun for the strongest growth and best flowering. It can tolerate some light shade, although flowering may be reduced.

Soil Requirements:

Velour White prefers well-drained soil and adapts to a range of garden soil types. Good drainage is important, particularly during winter and prolonged wet conditions.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, watering requirements are relatively low, although occasional deep watering during extended hot and dry periods will help maintain healthy growth and flowering.

Frost Tolerance:

Salvia Leucantha Velour White has moderate frost tolerance. Frost may damage soft growth in colder areas, but established plants generally recover well when warmer conditions return.

Drought Tolerance:

Once established, Velour White has good drought tolerance and performs well in warm, dry conditions. Supplementary watering during prolonged heat will help extend flowering.

Flowering Information:

Soft white flowers are produced on long, velvety flower spikes from late summer through autumn and often into early winter. The flowers contrast beautifully with the grey-green foliage and are attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow approximately 80cm to 1 metre between plants to provide room for mature growth and good airflow.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to support fresh growth and flowering. Avoid excessive feeding, particularly with high-nitrogen fertilisers.

Care and Maintenance:

Prune back firmly after flowering or in late winter to maintain a compact shape and encourage strong new growth. Remove spent flower stems as required and mulch around the root zone to help conserve moisture.
