Product Overview

Rosmarinus officinalis Rosemary is a fragrant, evergreen woody shrub native to the Mediterranean region. It features needle-like aromatic leaves, soft blue flowers, and enduring appeal both in the herb garden and as an ornamental landscape plant.

Growth:

Typically grows to around 60 cm to 1 metre tall and wide in garden settings, though it can reach up to 1.8 metres under ideal conditions.

Light Requirements:

Requires full sun, at least six hours of direct sunlight daily, to flourish and maintain strong fragrance, foliage colour, and flowering.

Soil Requirements:

Thrives in well-drained soil. Prefers light, sandy, or loamy soils with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid waterlogged or heavy soils.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, allow the soil to dry between thorough watering sessions to maintain healthy growth and avoid root rot.

Frost Tolerance:

Moderately frost tolerant. In colder regions, mulch the base or grow in containers that can be sheltered during winter.

Drought Tolerance:

Highly drought tolerant once established. Performs exceptionally well in low-water, waterwise, coastal, and exposed garden settings.

Flowering Information:

Produces small, tubular blue flowers from spring into summer. In mild climates, flowering may continue sporadically through autumn and early winter.

Spacing Requirements:

Plant approximately 60 to 80 cm apart to allow adequate airflow and space for foliage development.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Low feeding needs just fertilise sparingly. A light top-up with compost or balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring supports growth; excess fertiliser, especially nitrogen, can diminish flavour.

Care and Maintenance:

Low maintenance. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain form and promote denser growth. Remove old wood to rejuvenate the plant. Mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Excellent for hedging, herb gardens, containers, and fragrant borders.
