Product Overview
Rosmarinus officinalis Tuscan Blue Rosemary is a fragrant, upright evergreen shrub prized for its deep blue to violet-blue tubular flowers and aromatic needle-like foliage. Both leaves and flowers are edible, widely used in Mediterranean cooking to season meats, vegetables, breads, and oils. This cultivar adds colour, fragrance, and structure to herb gardens, hedges, and landscape plantings.
Growth:
Tall and upright, typically reaching 1.5 to 2 metres in height and spreading 0.8 to 1.5 metres wide. In optimal conditions, it creates a bold architectural presence in the garden.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun. At least six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily enhances both foliage aroma and flowering.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well-drained soils such as sandy or loamy types with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid heavy, waterlogged sites to prevent root rot.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, drought tolerance is high and occasional deep watering is sufficient.
Frost Tolerance:
Moderately frost tolerant and performs well in temperate climates, particularly when planted in well-drained sites.
Drought Tolerance:
Highly drought tolerant once established. Well suited for waterwise gardens, hedges, and Mediterranean-style plantings.
Flowering Information:
Features clusters of deep blue to violet-blue tubular flowers from winter through spring, with occasional blooms throughout the year in warm climates. The showy blooms are attractive to bees and pollinators.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow approximately 0.8 to 1.5 metres between plants to accommodate mature spread and ensure airflow.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low feeding needs. A light spring application of compost or balanced slow-release fertiliser encourages healthy growth and flowering.
Care and Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape and promote fresh growth. Use mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Excellent for hedges, culinary use, or structural garden features.
