Product Overview
Rosmarinus officinalis Chef’s Choice Rosemary is a compact, aromatic herb prized for its rich flavour, high oil content, and tidy, mounding habit. It’s ideal for container gardens, borders, or as an edible groundcover in kitchen gardens.
Growth:
A small, compact shrub that typically reaches 45 to 60 cm in height and spreads similarly in width. It forms a neat, dense mound that suits small gardens and herbaceous borders.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun. Performs well in partly light shade but may produce fewer flowers in lower light.
Soil Requirements:
Favours well‑drained soils across a range of types—from sand to loam—especially when enriched with organic material. Avoid poorly drained or waterlogged soil.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, water only occasionally; this encourages deeper root growth and oil concentration in the foliage.
Frost Tolerance:
Frost-sensitive. Best suited to mild temperate or subtropical climates. In colder locations, grow in containers that can be moved under cover during frost events.
Drought Tolerance:
Very drought tolerant once established. Excellent for low‑water and xeriscape plantings.
Flowering Information:
Delicate clusters of pale blue to violet flowers appear in spring and may continue through summer, adding seasonal charm and attracting pollinators.
Spacing Requirements:
Space plants about 45 to 60 cm apart when used as groundcover or edging. Allow similar spacing for grouping in containers or beds.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low feeding needs. A light application of balanced or slow‑release fertiliser in spring supports growth, but excessive nitrogen can reduce flavour and flowering.
Care and Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Trim after flowering to maintain shape and prevent legginess. Mulch lightly to conserve moisture and suppress weeds; prune regularly for dense regrowth.
