How To Grow
Sow seeds 12mm deep directly into their final position. Place 4 to 5 seeds together in a clump, later thinning to the two strongest seedlings. Space clumps 40 to 50cm apart, leaving 100cm between rows. When young plants have 5 to 6 leaves, pinch out the growing tips to encourage side shoots. Prepare soil with compost or fertiliser, keep well-watered, and use a trellis or fence for support if garden space is limited.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer once the soil is warm and in full sun.
Harvest
Fruits are usually ready 12 to 14 weeks after sowing. Pick when melons develop a sweet aroma and feel heavy for their size.
Soil Type
Grows best in fertile, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
Important Note
These seeds may be treated with fungicide (Thiram or Apron XL). Do not eat the seeds or feed them to animals. Treatment is an AQIS requirement for certain imported seed varieties and does not affect crops or harm beneficial insects such as bees. Treated seed packets will be clearly marked and the seeds dyed a bright colour.
