Rockmelon Hales Best Seeds produce a reliable, powdery mildew resistant variety that is well-suited to home gardens. The fruits weigh around 1kg each, with sweet, juicy flesh and a classic rockmelon aroma. Perfect for slicing into summer fruit salads, blending into smoothies or enjoying chilled straight from the fridge.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 12mm deep directly into their final position. Place 4 to 5 seeds in each clump, then thin to the two strongest seedlings. Space clumps 40 to 50cm apart, leaving about 50cm between rows. Once plants have 5 to 6 leaves, pinch out the tips to encourage side shoots. Keep soil rich with compost or fertiliser, water regularly, and grow along a fence or trellis if space is limited.
When To Plant
Sow during spring and summer in warm soil and a sunny position.
Harvest
Ready to pick 12 to 14 weeks after sowing, when fruits give off a sweet fragrance and sound hollow when tapped.
Soil Type
Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil that has been enriched with organic matter.
Important Note
These seeds may be treated with fungicide (Thiram or Apron XL). Do not eat the seeds or feed them to animals. Treatment is an AQIS requirement for certain imported seed varieties and does not affect crops or harm beneficial insects such as bees. If treated, the packet will be clearly marked and the seeds dyed a bright colour.
