Product Overview
Pilea Peperomioides Chinese Money Plant is a popular indoor plant prized for its distinctive round, coin-shaped leaves held on long slender stems. Its compact growth habit, fresh green foliage and easy-care nature make it an excellent choice for desks, shelves, windowsills and indoor plant displays.
Growth:
Pilea Peperomioides Chinese Money Plant forms an upright, compact plant generally growing around 30 to 50cm high and wide. As it matures, it readily produces small offsets or baby plants around the base, creating a fuller clump over time.
Light Requirements:
Position in bright, indirect light for the strongest growth and healthiest foliage. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Rotate the pot regularly to encourage even growth, as the leaves naturally turn towards the light.
Soil Requirements:
Grow in a high-quality, free-draining indoor potting mix. Good drainage is essential, as Chinese Money Plants are sensitive to continually wet soil and can develop root problems if overwatered.
Water Requirements:
Water when the top 2 to 3cm of potting mix has dried. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away before returning the plant to its decorative pot or saucer. Reduce watering during the cooler months when growth slows.
Humidity and Temperature:
Chinese Money Plant is well suited to normal household humidity and does not require extremely humid conditions. Keep in a warm indoor position protected from cold draughts, air-conditioning and sudden temperature changes.
Foliage and Flowering:
The distinctive round, bright green leaves can reach approximately 10cm across and are held on long stems radiating from the central plant. Small pale green to pinkish flowers may occasionally appear on mature plants, although Pilea Peperomioides is primarily grown for its decorative foliage.
Pot Size and Spacing:
Chinese Money Plant performs well in moderately sized pots with good drainage and does not need to be over-potted. Repot into the next pot size when roots begin filling the existing container. Baby plants produced around the base can be left to create a fuller display or separated and potted individually.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Apply a balanced liquid or controlled-release indoor plant fertiliser during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during winter when growth naturally slows.
Care and Maintenance:
Rotate the pot by approximately a quarter turn regularly to maintain balanced, upright growth. Remove yellow or damaged leaves as required and wipe the foliage occasionally to remove dust. Avoid overwatering and never allow the pot to sit permanently in water. Offsets can be easily separated and propagated once they are large enough to handle.
