Onion Pickling Paris Silverskin Seeds

A quick-growing and very popular variety, Paris Silverskin produces crisp, sweet white onions perfect for pickling. Often called “cocktail onions,” they grow reliably in almost any soil, even lighter or poorer ground, and thrive in a sunny position. Mature bulbs are ready in just 8–12 weeks, making them an excellent fast-cropping choice.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 5mm deep in rows 15cm apart. No thinning is required, but keep plants well-watered, especially during dry spells. While they will tolerate a range of soils, the best results come from well-dug and manured soil in a sunny spot. Seedlings emerge in 10–14 days.
Harvest when onions are marble-sized for the best pickling quality. To pickle, peel onions and place in a brine solution (85g salt to 475ml water) for 24 hours. Rinse, drain, and pack into sterilised jars, covering with cold white pickling vinegar.
Successive sowings every 4–6 weeks ensure a continuous harvest of fresh pickling onions.
