Product Overview
Monstera deliciosa Thai Constellation is a variegated form of the classic Monstera, loved for its large, marbled cream-and-green leaves with natural splits and holes. This tropical beauty adds an elegant, eye-catching presence to any indoor space. Offers a gorgeous combination of size, texture and colour.
Growth:
Thai Constellation is a slow-growing plant that can eventually reach up to 3 metres tall (typically grown to 2 metres and about 1.5 metres wide indoors with proper care and support. Providing a moss pole or support structure encourages vertical growth and helps develop larger, more dramatic leaves.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can handle some direct morning sun, avoid harsh afternoon sunlight, which can burn the leaves. Insufficient light may cause slower growth and less pronounced variegation.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers a loose, well-draining soil mix that retains some moisture but allows excess water to drain away. A combination of premium potting mix, perlite, and orchid bark provides the right balance of aeration and drainage.
Water Requirements:
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. In cooler months, reduce watering frequency as the plant’s growth slows.
Humidity and Temperature:
This plant thrives in warm, humid conditions, ideally between 18°C and 30°C. High humidity (around 60–80%) helps keep the foliage healthy and vibrant. If the indoor air is dry, mist the plant occasionally or use a humidifier. Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Foliage and Flowering:
Features large, heart-shaped leaves with dramatic fenestrations (splits) and creamy variegation patterns that resemble a constellation. While flowering is rare indoors, the striking foliage alone makes it a highly desirable statement plant.
Pot Size and Spacing:
Start with a pot that fits the young plant’s root system, typically around 20–25 cm wide. As the plant matures, repot every one to two years into a slightly larger container to support its expanding size. Ensure there’s space for the plant to spread to about 1.5 metres wide.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Feed monthly during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can lead to salt build-up and root stress.
Care and Maintenance:
Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them glossy. Prune back any yellowing or damaged leaves. Rotate the plant occasionally to promote even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light. Provide a sturdy support to help the plant climb and develop its signature large leaves.
