Lemon Grass Herb Seeds
200 Seeds
Lemon Grass is a fast-growing perennial with tall, lemon-scented stalks that are a staple in East Asian cuisine. Its fresh, citrus flavour is essential for curries, soups and teas, and it also makes a refreshing garden herb that is drought-tolerant and hardy in a wide range of soils. Rich in vitamin A, it is both useful and ornamental.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 5mm deep in pots or directly into the garden. Germination can be slow and uneven, so sow several seeds together. Transplant seedlings into large pots or their final garden position once they are around 10cm tall and all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny spot or light shade, and ensure soil temperatures remain above 20°C. Seedlings usually emerge within 14 to 21 days.
When To Plant
Best sown from spring to early autumn.
Harvest
Cut stalks as required once plants are well established. Harvest the tender inner base of the stalk for cooking.
Soil Type
Tolerant of most soils, but thrives in fertile, well-drained ground with regular watering.
