Product Overview
Heuchera Sugar Plum is a semi-evergreen perennial valued for its rich, frosty plum-purple foliage with a silver overlay, and delicate spikes of soft pink flowers that rise above the leaves. It brings long lasting colour and texture to borders, containers, and shaded gardens.
Growth:
Forms a low, dense mound around 30-40 cm high and 40-45 cm wide, creating a compact and decorative groundcover.
Light Requirements:
Performs best in full sun to part shade. In hotter regions, some afternoon shade helps protect the foliage colour and prevent leaf scorch.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers moist, well drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid heavy or waterlogged soil to maintain healthy root growth.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly while establishing. Once mature, maintain even soil moisture, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings.
Frost Tolerance:
Moderately frost tolerant once established. Light frosts may damage leaf edges, but plants recover quickly with new growth in spring.
Drought Tolerance:
Moderate. It tolerates short dry periods but benefits from additional watering during extended heat or drought to preserve foliage colour.
Flowering Information:
Produces slender spikes of soft silvery pink bell shaped flowers from late spring through summer, rising above the foliage for an elegant display.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant about 30-40 cm apart to allow full growth and good air circulation.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low to moderate feeding needs. Apply a light dressing of slow release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy foliage and flowering.
Care and Maintenance:
Remove spent flower stems and older leaves to keep the plant tidy. Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigour. Mulch lightly to retain moisture, keeping mulch away from the crown to prevent rot.
