Product Overview

Ficus elastica Shivereana Rubber Plant, is a rare and eye-catching houseplant known for its glossy, marbled leaves in soft lime, cream, and green tones. New growth often emerges with a delicate pink tint, adding to its charm. This variety is perfect for adding an elegant, tropical accent to Australian homes and indoor spaces.

Growth:

Indoors, Shivereana typically reaches 2 metres tall by up to 1 metre wide , developing a graceful upright shape with wide, oval leaves. While it naturally grows tall, occasional pruning can help maintain a compact, bushy form if desired. Its steady growth makes it an ideal feature plant for bright rooms or office corners.

Light Requirements:

This rubber plant loves bright, indirect light, which helps maintain the vibrancy of its variegation. It can tolerate a bit of shade, but too little light will cause the markings to fade. Keep it away from harsh afternoon sun, as direct rays can scorch its delicate leaves.

Soil Requirements:

A light, well-draining potting mix works best. Use a high-quality indoor blend with added perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage and prevent soggy roots. Always plant in a pot with drainage holes, as the roots dislike sitting in water.

Water Requirements:

Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out before watering again. While Shivereana enjoys consistent moisture, it’s much safer to underwater slightly than to overwater, which can lead to root rot. In the cooler months, cut back watering as the plant’s growth slows.

Humidity and Temperature:

This tropical variety thrives in warm indoor temperatures between 18°C and 27°C. While it handles average humidity well, it will appreciate occasional misting or being grouped with other plants to increase ambient moisture. Keep it away from cold draughts and hot air vents, which can stress the leaves.

Foliage and Flowering:

Shivereana has beautiful variegated foliage pale green and cream marbled leaves, often dusted with darker green speckles. Although flowering is rare indoors, the foliage alone provides plenty of visual appeal throughout the year.

Pot Size and Spacing:

Start with a pot about 20–25 cm wide for younger plants, providing enough room for the roots to spread. As it grows, repot every one or two years, moving up just one pot size at a time. If placing multiple rubber plants together, leave enough space to ensure proper airflow around the leaves.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Feed monthly during the warmer seasons (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. In autumn and winter, reduce or pause feeding altogether, as the plant’s growth slows. Avoid over-fertilising, which can damage the roots or cause salt build-up.

Care and Maintenance:

Gently wipe the leaves every few weeks to keep them dust-free and allow the plant to breathe. Prune back leggy or tall stems to encourage fuller growth, and remove any yellow or damaged leaves as needed. Check occasionally for pests like spider mites or scale, especially in dry indoor conditions. rotate plant for even growth.
