Dianthus barbatus produces beautifully coloured, clove-scented flower heads that are ideal for cutting and floral displays. The delicate petals are also edible and make an attractive natural garnish. Sweet William is a favourite for cottage gardens and is well known for supporting bees and other pollinators through the cooler months when food sources are limited.

How To Grow
Seeds can be sown directly into the garden or started in punnets. Sow 3mm deep and space seeds about 20cm apart. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination. Seedlings usually emerge within 7 to 15 days. Once established, thin to the strongest plants to allow good airflow and healthy growth. Grow in well-cultivated soil.
