Dianella hybrid ‘DP401’ Clarity Blue PBR is an evergreen flax lily hybrid valued for its upright, Phormium-like foliage in clean blue tones, topped in spring with delicate blue flower spikes. It combines resilience with vivid colour and works beautifully in coastal, waterwise, or low-maintenance gardens.
Growth:
Forms a neat, upright clump typically around 55 cm tall and 45 cm wide. A fabulous choice for feature plantings, mass drifts, borders, or containers.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun to part shade. Leaf colour is most vivid in bright light, but it can perform well with some afternoon relief in hotter regions.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well-drained soils such as sandy, loamy, or clay loams. Although tolerant of occasional wet feet, prolonged waterlogging should be avoided.
Water Requirements:
Water consistently during establishment for about 8 to 13 weeks. Once mature, it requires only minimal supplemental watering and prefers to avoid overwatering.
Frost Tolerance:
Moderately frost tolerant and hardy in most temperate climates.
Drought Tolerance:
Highly drought tolerant once established, making it ideal for low-water gardens and coastal settings.
Flowering Information:
Produces upright flower stems in summer bearing clusters of delicate blue flowers, offering seasonal interest above the striking foliage.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant 4 to 8 per square metre (about 30 to 50 cm apart) for dense coverage and optimal visual impact.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low feeding needs. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring after establishment and use mulch to support soil health.
Care and Maintenance:
Minimal maintenance. Remove older leaves as required. Trim older foliage annually and mulch lightly to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
