Product Overview
Chilli Big Jim Seeds
50 seeds
Big Jim is famous for producing some of the longest chillies in the world, with fruits reaching up to 30 cm. A heavy yielding variety, it offers a mild to medium heat that builds as the pods ripen from green to red. Excellent for stuffing, grilling, or adding to salsas, it’s a versatile chilli that brings both flavour and show-stopping size to your garden.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 5 mm deep in seed trays or punnets filled with seed-raising mix. Keep moist until germination, then transplant to the garden or pots once seedlings are 7–10 cm tall. Space plants 50 cm apart in a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. Avoid overwatering but don’t let the soil dry out completely. A fortnightly feed with liquid fertiliser will boost growth. In warmer regions, seeds can also be sown directly into the garden.
When To Plant
Spring to early Summer. In warmer northern areas, they may also be sown in Winter.
Harvest
10–14 weeks from sowing, continuing over a long season.
Sow
Spring, Summer.
Soil Type
Well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost.
Care
Pick chillies regularly to encourage ongoing fruiting. Handle pods with care, as they may irritate skin and eyes.
