Product Overview

Bean Dwarf Borlotti Seeds

25 grams of seed

Dwarf Borlotti is a versatile and attractive bean variety. Pods can be picked young as tender green beans, or left to mature and dried for use as haricot beans. When ripe, the pods display striking red flecks on a pale green background, while the seeds themselves are beautifully patterned with red streaks and spots on creamy yellow. Both decorative and practical, this variety is a favourite for the kitchen and the garden.

How To Grow

Sow seeds directly into well-prepared, damp soil enriched with compost or aged manure. Space rows 10 to 15cm apart. Thin or transplant seedlings to around 30cm between plants once established.

Dwarf beans need warm soil to germinate, so delay sowing if conditions are too cold. Hoe regularly to control weeds and water well, particularly when flowers are forming. Harvest pods while still young for continuous cropping, or allow them to fully mature for drying.

As legumes, beans naturally enrich the soil by fixing nitrogen, so additional fertiliser is not required.

When To Plant

Sow from spring through to late summer, or in autumn in warmer regions.

Harvest

Ready in 8 to 10 weeks from sowing.

Soil Type

Fertile, well-cultivated soil with good drainage.

Important Note

Avoid overcrowding, as stressed plants may send out climbing runners. Ensure each plant receives adequate sunlight. Lightly mist flowers with water to assist with pollination and pod set.
