With its strong growth and classic taste, it’s a staple herb for any kitchen garden or sunny windowsill.
How To Grow
Sow seeds thinly in seed trays or directly into garden beds, covering lightly with fine soil. Keep moist during germination. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle, spacing 25 to 30cm apart in a warm, sunny position. Pinch out flower buds to prolong harvest and encourage more leafy growth.
When To Plant
Sow in spring and summer, or year-round in frost-free regions.
Harvest
Leaves are ready to pick from about 8 weeks after sowing. Regular harvesting encourages bushy plants and fresh new growth.
Soil Type
Prefers rich, well-drained soil with added compost or organic matter. Mulch to help conserve moisture.
