Product Overview

Melon Sakata Sweet World Kitchen Seeds

Approx 20 Seeds

Melon Sakata Sweet World Kitchen Seeds produce small, round melons from Japan, about the size of a softball. Known for their high sugar content, these oriental melons are crisp, crunchy and refreshingly sweet, with edible skins that make them wonderfully different from traditional varieties. They are perfect sliced into fruit salads, chilled for a refreshing snack, or even eaten whole like an apple.

How To Grow

Sow directly into warm soil in full sun, or start early in punnets before transplanting. Place two seeds together in each clump, spacing clumps 50cm apart with rows 50cm apart. Seedlings appear in 7 to 14 days. Once young plants have 5 to 6 leaves, pinch out the growing tips to encourage more flowering shoots. Keep soil consistently moist and mulch well to conserve water. Plants can also be grown on a trellis to save space.

When To Plant

Sow in spring to summer, and in autumn in tropical regions where conditions remain warm.

Harvest

Fruits are ready to enjoy when the skin develops a sweet aroma and the melon feels heavy for its size.

Soil Type

Best grown in sunny, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.

Important Note

These seeds are treated with fungicide (Thiram or Apron XL). Do not eat the seeds or feed them to animals. Treatment is an AQIS requirement for some imported varieties and does not affect crops or harm beneficial insects such as bees.
