Product Overview

Agapanthus Orientalis ‘PMN06’ Queen Mum™ PBR is a striking evergreen perennial prized for its extra-large bi-coloured flower heads and glossy green strappy foliage. Its tall, elegant blooms feature white petals with distinctive blue throats, making it an excellent choice for garden borders, mass planting, formal landscapes, patio pots and large containers.

Growth:

Agapanthus Queen Mumâ„¢ forms a dense, clumping plant generally growing around 1.5 metres high when in flower and approximately 1.2 metres wide. Its glossy strap-like foliage creates an attractive evergreen mound beneath the tall flowering stems.

Light Requirements:

Plant in full sun to moderate shade. Full sun will generally encourage the strongest flowering, although Queen Mumâ„¢ is tolerant of partially shaded positions.

Soil Requirements:

Queen Mumâ„¢ is adaptable to most soil types provided drainage is adequate. Improving poorer soils with organic matter before planting can help support strong establishment and flowering.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly for the first 8 to 13 weeks after planting while the root system establishes. Once established, watering requirements are relatively low, although occasional deep watering during prolonged hot and dry periods will help maintain plant quality.

Frost Tolerance:

Agapanthus Queen Mumâ„¢ has good frost tolerance once established and is suitable for cool and temperate Australian gardens.

Drought Tolerance:

Once established, Queen Mumâ„¢ has excellent drought tolerance and is well suited to waterwise gardens. Supplementary watering during extended periods of extreme heat will help maintain healthy foliage and flowering.

Flowering Information:

Extra-large flower heads are held high above the foliage during summer, typically around December and January. Individual flowers feature white petals with prominent blue throats, creating a distinctive two-tone display. The blooms are also attractive to pollinating insects.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow approximately 50 to 70cm between plants for mass planting and borders. A planting density of around 2 to 4 plants per square metre can be used where a fuller landscape effect is desired.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser during spring as new growth begins. Additional feeding during the growing season can help support strong flowering, particularly in containers or poorer soils.

Care and Maintenance:

Queen Mumâ„¢ is a hardy, low-maintenance variety with good disease tolerance. Remove spent flower heads and older foliage as required to maintain a tidy appearance. This variety produces very little seed, although spent flower heads should still be removed, particularly when planted near bushland.
