Product Overview
Vasili's Citrus Guard White Spray is an effective solution for combating Citrus Gall Wasps and reducing heat stress in citrus trees, leading to increased vitality and fruit productivity.
Citrus Gall Wasp is a harmful pest that lays its eggs just beneath the surface of citrus tree branches. These branches act as hosts for the larvae, allowing them to grow and feed on the tree's sap. This infestation causes significant stress to the tree, leading to swollen branches and restricted sap flow. If left unchecked, the tree's lifespan is reduced, and fruit production decreases. Lemon trees are particularly susceptible to this pest, followed by orange, lime, and mandarin trees.
The primary ingredient of CGWS (Citrus Guard White Spray) is a high-grade, refined kaolin mineral. When mixed with water and applied to citrus trees, it creates a white barrier film. This barrier stops Gall Wasps from penetrating the tree and laying eggs. Moreover, the white film acts as a reflector and sunblock, reducing heat stress on hot days.
Heat stress is a significant concern in Australia where high summer temperatures are common. Temperatures exceeding 28°C can cause citrus trees to shut down, halting photosynthesis and stunting growth. Using a CGWS programme can lower canopy temperature by up to 8°C, reducing overall stress on the tree and encouraging growth, especially during the hot summer months.
To apply CGWS:
Initial Application: Mix 50g (3 tbsp) of CGWS powder with 1 litre of water in a small container, stirring continuously to prevent clumping. Add the mixed contents to a sprayer bottle, seal it, then shake vigorously to ensure thorough mixing.
Repeat Applications: For subsequent applications, mix 25g (1½ tbsp) of CGWS powder with 1 litre of water. Apply this solution 14 to 28 days apart or as necessary depending on weather conditions. After each application, flush the sprayer with clean water.
Begin applications in late winter and continue until early autumn, or apply when the weather is consistently over 20 degrees. Applications should be made fortnightly to monthly and applied to the point of runoff (drenched).
Precautions: CGWS may cause slight eye irritation or respiratory system irritation. Always wear dust/filtering masks before handling the product and avoid contact with eyes.
