Product Overview
Tomato Mortgage Lifter Seeds
50 Seeds
Mortgage Lifter is a legendary heirloom beefsteak tomato variety, producing extra-large, meaty fruits weighing up to 400 g each. Developed in the 1930s by a farmer who famously sold enough of his bumper crops to save his farm from repossession, this variety has become a symbol of reliability and abundance. With high yields of up to 16 kg per plant, Mortgage Lifter is a fabulous all-rounder, perfect for slicing, cooking, and preserving.
How to Grow
Sow seeds 5 mm deep in pots or trays of quality seed-raising mix. Maintain a soil temperature of at least 18°C for best germination. Seedlings appear in 7–14 days. Transplant to individual pots when plants are around 5 cm high, then move to garden beds, large pots, or grow bags when sturdy enough. Space plants 75 cm apart and provide strong stakes or trellising early. Pinch out side shoots as they appear, water consistently, and feed with a potassium-rich fertiliser once the first truss sets.
When to Plant
Early spring to summer, once the risk of frost has passed.
