Product Overview
Poa poiformis Coastal Tussock Grass is a hardy Australian native grass valued for its dense, upright tussock form and fine blue green foliage. It is ideal for coastal gardens, mass plantings, erosion control, and low maintenance landscapes where texture and movement are desired.
Growth:
Forms a dense, rounded tussock reaching around 60-100 cm high and 60-80 cm wide, depending on growing conditions.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Best form, colour, and density occur in full sun.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well drained soil but adapts to sandy, loamy, and coastal soils. Tolerates poor soils and saline conditions well.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it requires minimal watering and performs well under natural rainfall in most conditions.
Frost Tolerance:
Highly frost tolerant once established. Suitable for cold inland areas and exposed sites.
Drought Tolerance:
Excellent. Handles extended dry periods once established without loss of form.
Flowering Information:
Produces fine, airy flower heads from Spring through to Summer, rising above the foliage and adding soft movement and texture.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant about 60-80 cm apart to allow full tussock development and good airflow.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low feeding needs. A light application of native slow release fertiliser in Spring is sufficient if required. Avoid over fertilising.
Care and Maintenance:
Very low maintenance. Trim back old foliage in late Winter to refresh the plant and encourage clean new growth in Spring. Mulch around the base to suppress weeds during establishment.
