Product Overview
Osteospermum Serenity Spring Day is a semi-evergreen mounded perennial African daisy that offers a shifting floral display. Blooms open ivory, blush to soft pink, then often fade back to white with golden yellow undersides. It is ideal for borders, containers, and sunny garden positions.
Growth:
Typically grows to 25-35 cm high with a spread of 35-50 cm, forming a rounded mound of foliage dotted with daisy blooms.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun. In very hot climates, some dappled afternoon shade may help protect the blooms and maintain foliage.
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well drained soil such as sandy loam enriched with organic matter. Avoid heavy, waterlogged ground.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it tolerates brief dry spells, though flowering is more prolific when moisture is consistent.
Frost Tolerance:
Tolerates light frost. Semi evergreen foliage may thin, but the plant typically recovers and produces fresh growth in spring.
Drought Tolerance:
Moderate drought tolerance once established. In prolonged dry periods, flowering may decline but the plant generally endures. Mulching helps conserve moisture.
Flowering Information:
Blooms from spring through to autumn. Flowers open ivory, then blush pink, often returning toward white. The undersides of petals show golden yellow tones, creating a soft marbled effect.
Spacing Requirements:
Plant about 30-40 cm apart to allow room for mounding growth and ensure good ventilation between plants.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Low to moderate. Apply a balanced or slow release fertiliser in spring. Light supplementary feeding during the growing season helps prolong bloom.
Care and Maintenance:
Remove spent flowers to extend bloom periods. Light trimming mid season keeps the mound tidy. At the end of the season, cut back old stems to stimulate fresh growth. Mulch the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stems.
