Product Overview

Lavandula Lavender Avonview is a popular and beautifully fragrant variety of Italian lavender, prized for its deep purple flower spikes and grey-green aromatic foliage. Flowering over a long period from late winter into summer, it brings colour, structure, and scent to borders, hedging, and pots. Fast-growing, drought-tolerant, and low-maintenance, Avonview is ideal for Mediterranean-style, cottage, and coastal gardens.

Growth:

Forms a compact, bushy shrub reaching approximately 60-80 cm tall and wide. Responds well to shaping, making it perfect for low hedges or edging.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in full sun. Requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best flowering and form.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers free-draining, slightly alkaline to neutral soil. Tolerates poor or sandy soils but dislikes heavy or waterlogged ground.

Water Requirements:

Low water needs once established. Water during prolonged dry periods, especially in pots or exposed areas, but avoid overwatering.

Frost Tolerance:

Tolerates light frosts. In colder regions, plant in a sheltered spot or provide light protection during winter.

Drought Tolerance:

Highly drought-tolerant once mature. An excellent choice for dry and coastal gardens.

Flowering Information:

Produces rich purple flower spikes from late winter through summer. Flowers are highly aromatic and attract bees and beneficial insects.

Spacing Requirements:

Plant 50-60 cm apart for hedging or group plantings. Suitable for borders, pathways, and feature containers.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Feed with a light application of slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid overfeeding, which can cause leggy growth and reduced fragrance.

Care and Maintenance:

Trim lightly after each flowering flush to encourage bushiness and repeat blooms. Prune back by one-third in late summer to maintain a neat shape. Avoid cutting into woody stems. Remove spent flowers regularly to extend the blooming period.
